Top Gun (1986)

 

After demonstrating his flying skills and nerves of steel in a dangerous incident over the Indian Ocean, Pete Mitchell nicknamed “Maverick” is sent to Top Gun School at NAS Miramar. Determined to be the best, his ability coupled with his cocky attitude, soon makes him the adversary of the top student, Tom Kazansky, called "Iceman". While butting heads with many in the school, he soon falls in love with the beautiful teacher Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood. A dark story about his father’s death emerges, and Maverick impetuously attempts to emerge from his father’s shadow. However will a deadly incident bring everything back into focus for him, or will he simply spiral out of control?

A great ensemble cast, with Tom Cruise as “Maverick” and co-starring Val Klimer as “Iceman” and Kelly McGillis as Maverick’s love interest “Charlie”.  Released in May of 1986, it was directed by Tony Scott, and the screenplay was written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps, Jr., inspired by an article written by Ehud Yonay.
