Tom Cruise is one of the most well-known actors of our time, who has made many successful films in different genres including romantic movies. While controversy has swarmed around him, especially in recent years, he is definitely a public figure whose presence does not seem to be diminishing.

For thirty years, Cruise has been acting in films, beginning with his first movie when he was only 19 years old. As of 2011, he has starred in 35 films, with several more in production. Cruise has not limited his film work to acting; he has also produced 14 films.

In the time that he has been starring in films, he has made a movie in nearly every film genre, from action to romantic comedy to science fiction. He has also worked with many famous directors including Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, John Woo and Brian De Palma.

He also made a very popular movie in the romantic comedies genre, "Jerry Maguire" which also stars Renée Zellweger. How about one that mixes action and romance? Then check out “Top Gun” with Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer.

He has made his name as mostly an action star with such movies as “Mission: Impossible”, but he has also starred in many military movies, the most famous likely being “Top Gun” from 1986.

Coming to theatres in December of 2011 is a new flick to add to the list of his movies. It is the adventure and action flick, “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. This will be Cruise’s fourth Mission: Impossible film, as he has acted in three earlier ones. The first one was released back in 1996. In this series, Cruise plays a character named “Ethan Hunt”.

He has also acted in several other action films besides the Mission: Impossible Series. To name a few, there is “The Last Samurai”, “Minority Report” and “War of the Worlds”. He is scheduled to appear in the comedy and musical flick “Rock of Ages” which is going to be released in June 2012. Cruise is slated to play character “Stacee Jaxx”.
